Dr. Jens Tartsch: "Ceramic implants are no longer a niche product - they are a clinical reality"
Around 100 participants attended the ‘Al LAC’ congress organised by Biotech Dental Suisse and SSO Ticino on 20 April 2024. The congress programme included a live surgery performed by Dr Christian Monti as well as presentations on topics such as guided surgery, metal-free ceramic implants, mucogingival surgical flaps in implantology, additive vs. subtractive technology in prosthetics and the treatment of bone defects with the GBR technique.
Prof Vittorio Sgarbi gave a Lectio Magistralis ‘The smile in the history of art’, in which he presented a collection of the most important works in which the mouth and the smile play a key role.
A special highlight in the congress programme was the lecture by Dr. Jens Tartsch, President of the European Society for Ceramic Implantology (ESCI), Board Member of the Swiss Society for Anti Aging Medicine and Prevention (SSAAMP) and Chairman of the German Society for Environmental Dentistry (DEGUZ), who spoke on the topic of ‘Metal-free ceramic implantology: the rationale and the advantages’.
Dr. Tartsch emphasised that ceramic implants are now a clinical reality and that there is clinical evidence for them. Several studies have indicated less bacterial adhesion, a lower risk of inflammation and better blood circulation around ceramic implants/abutments. And 3-, 4- and 7-year follow-ups (Zeramex XT and P6) have shown promising results, says Dr. Tartsch.
