Impressions of the DGZI elective module "Ceramic implants"

The elective module "Ceramic implants", which took place on 19/20 May in Mainz, was the first topic-specific module in the Implantology 2.0 curriculum of the German Society for Dental Implantology (DGZI) and thus a kind of milestone in continuing dental education.

The module was led by Dr Elisabeth Jacobi-Gresser, Dr Jens Tartsch, Dr Marc Balmer and ZT Klaus Pettinger. The theoretical part covered the basics of ceramic implantology, surgical and prosthetic concepts as well as cases from practice, and clinical evidence was presented. The practical part included training on the model jaw, an introduction to the Zeramex XT implant system and the possibilities of trouble management.

"Within the DGZI curriculum, this elective module is an absolute novelty. We had interesting meetings, wonderful discussions, fantastic basic lectures. I very much wish that respect for biology would gain even more ground and that we would become more aware of what we put into the body in implantology and that we would think more about the compatibility of materials. With ceramic implants, we are exactly on the right track to achieve a good goal and also to think about minimising the variety of materials in the human body and the confrontation with the immune system," says Dr Elisabeth Jacobi-Gresser, dentist for oral surgery and implantology and board member of the DGZI.

Dr Marc Balmer emphasised: "I find it very nice that the topic of ceramic implants has found its place in the DGZI curriculum. The scientific evidence for ceramic implants is coming and is there. In some cases, we already have long-term data of 5 to 10 years. The prosthetic possibilities have also increased: You can screw ceramic implants today. I think this will increase the future of ceramic implants enormously."

Michael Wierz, Sales Manager DACH, was delighted with the successful event: "We are very pleased to have been able to support the "Ceramic Implants" training module. It is also a milestone for Zeramex. I am confident that the Implantology 2.0 curriculum will be expanded even more in the future and that we will enable even more dentists to enter the world of ceramic implantology."
