On 25 September 2025, the 7th edition of the “Zeramex Meet & Learn” training series took place as part of the 3rd European Congress of Ceramic Implant Dentistry. The half-day event combined a scientific lecture by Dr. Alessandro Alan Porporati, Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs at CeramTec Group, a guided production tour and a hands-on session, bringing together professionals with an interest in ceramic implantology.

The program highlight was a lecture by Dr. Alessandro Alan Porporati, Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs at CeramTec Group. In his presentation, “Material matters: lessons learned from ceramic implants in total hip replacement”, Dr. Alessandro Alan Porporati outlined the clinical experience with ceramic materials in hip arthroplasty and discussed their relevance for dental implantology. “Ceramics in implant dentistry have reached maturity. With zirconia and advanced composites such as ATZ, and with the support of new manufacturing technologies, we can now explore new applications that combine biological compatibility with aesthetic benefits,” he explained.

Key insights from Dr. Porporati’s lecture:

  • Ceramics have proven long-term success in hip arthroplasty – a model for implant dentistry.
  • Excellent biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance and fracture toughness are the advantages of zirconia and ATZ for dental implantology. Zirconia and ATZ surfaces show also reduced bacterial adhesion and a high osteogenic potential.
  • Registry data show lower revision and infection rates with ceramics compared to metal.
  • Future outlook: Ceramics in dentistry are mature; zirconia and advanced composites will enable new applications combining durability, function and aesthetics.

Participants also had the opportunity to join a guided tour of production facility and to take part in a hands-on session focusing on the Zeramex XT implant system. The format allowed for direct exchange on practical application of the system.

“With Zeramex Meet & Learn, we aim to connect expertise in material science with hands-on training and provide insights into the manufacturing of ceramic implants. We are very pleased with the consistently positive feedback and would like to thank all participants for taking the time to join the workshop,” said Dr. Ina Wüstefeld, Managing Director of CeramTec Switzerland.
